Case Practice - Simon Stålenhag, robot w. basic rig

Another case study on one of Simon Stålenhag's Tales From The Loop / Ur Varselklotet paintings. This one really let me sink my teeth into Substance Painter, focusing on the feedback and lessons I had learned from the previous piece. There is still a lot of room for improvement, but I am quite happy with how much I am learning already!
I also rigged this one (SEE THE GIFS), but the motions are unfortunately quite limited as I did not originally plan on animating it, so the geometry and textures do not accommodate it super well. However, the pistons work as intended, the eye leads the head movement and the plating on the front feet slides with the motion, which you can see here in the gifs!

Lessons for my next piece:
- Continue improving on topology, edge flows are still not where I would like them to be and the edges are too sharp in many places
- Plan for motion in both the modelling and texturing stages, to ensure no blank spots or missing topology occurs when parts begin moving around

Things I want to master next:
- High-to-low topology baking, I have not done this for either of the pieces I have made so far, as I have been focusing on other aspects
- Rigging and animating in Unreal Engine 5 (or alternatively in Blender and exporting to UE5, depends on whether I choose to jump into dynamic animation systems in Unreal, IK etc.)

Constructive criticism is very welcome as I continue my learning journey!

Using a fill layer and black mask in Substance Painter, it was easy to paint wear and showing repeated motions, which really adds a lot of character

I worked a lot with brushes to imply a bit of that hand-painted look as well, in line with the original being a painting as well
